Bubbles, Bubbles Everywhere

14 May

Today was our annual outdoor day at preschool.  I could not have custom ordered a better day.  The weather was so beautiful, it seemed to be a gift.  A gift that was needed, wanted and definitely appreciated.

My students had a blast today!  We had painting easels, water tub with boats, paint brushes and buckets of water to paint the walls with, and a car wash for our tricycles and cars along with our usual assortment of fun outdoor equipment.  What was the favorite?

The bubbles.  Lots and lots of bubbles.  Big ones, small ones, medium sized ones.  It was definitely a bubbly sort of day.  I loved the laughter and the shrieks of enjoyment.  It could make anyone smile.  This was $2 well spent.

What was their next favorite activity?

It was the car wash.  We had buckets of soapy water with old washclothes and towels that they could use.  They scrubbed not only the tricycles and cars, but also the entire playground to a glorious shine.  They knew what they were doing and how they were going to get it done.  They even scrubbed the sidewalk.  I like preschoolers with a plan.

This time of year is bittersweet.  It is a joy to see them so grown up and ready for kindergarten.  It thrills my heart that they love school so much, and enjoy their time with us.  It saddens my heart that my 9 months are just about up with these little ones.  We work so well together now and it is hard to start all over again with a new group in September.

So here’s to my last 4 days with my 38 students.  May those last days be as wonderful as today!
